Drone Buoy a simple lightweight recovery device

DRONE BUOY IS NOT A FLOTATION DEVICE

It’s intended use is to recover a failed drone flight over water. It is for ‘one time only’ use.

The high visibility float will detach from the drone immediately on immersion in water and float on the surface showing the location of the drone.

The high tensile lanyard must be securely attached to the drone (enough to lift its entire weight with some safety margin).

The lanyard has a breaking strain of 2.7Kg, for a successful recovery it is wise to check that the total flying weight is suitably less than this figure.

Attachment to the drone is at the discretion of the operator.

As a guide only, please consider that:

  • the float will detach in wet atmospheric conditions

  • The lanyard must be securely attached to the drone (or the item requiring recovery)

  • the device should be fitted prior to the specific flight over water and removed when complete

  • The standard device is fitted with a 10m lanyard

  • keep clear of propellers

  • try not to fit in direct prop wash

  • The larger molded hole in the base could be used to thread a cable tie fixing if required

The device consists of four main parts:

With the lanyard securely attached, the device should be held to the drone by the base. The standard unit is supplied with a removable adhesive pad, this may not be strong enough for some high speed quads and an alternative fixing may be required (cable tie, Velcro etc.).

Any alternative fixing must not hinder the float or release mechanism.

Real world testing

We wouldn't want anyone to destroy their drone for a test, so we've done for you
